European researchers call for harmonised nanomaterials safety assessment with US

Abstract:
The director of the EU Joint Research Centre's (JRC) Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP), Elke Anklam, gave an opening presentation at a workshop on the environmental, health and safety concerns related to nanomaterials and nanotechnology-based products in Washington DC earlier this month. She emphasised the need for harmonisation of safety assessment methods, an adequate definition of nanomaterials and a suitable transition process from research on new technologies to their inclusion in legislation.
