South Africa strategises to exploit the big opportunities of the very small
Abstract:
By 2002, there were sufficient researchers and projects under way in this country to justify the creation of a form of professional group for the field, and so the South African Nanotechnology Initiative (SANi) came into being in that year.
SANi is a broad-based, “grass-roots” (in research terms), stakeholder group, and has developed a network of scientists, engineers, and technologists who are active or inte-rested in nanotechnology research and development (R&D).
In 2003, it held its first meeting with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) about the possibility of developing a framework or strategy to support the development of nanoscience and technology in this country.
