Abstract:
Iranian researchers from Imam Khomeini International University analyzed the effects of various parameters on the mechanical behavior of nanobars containing heterogeneous materials.
Results of the research have application in the designing and production of nanostructured structures in various industries, including electromechanics, communication and production of sensors.
Smart scaled materials are among the heterogeneous materials that are made by combining two or other substances in fixed compositions. These materials have variable physical or mechanical properties, and they show different behaviors in response to changes. One of the characteristics of these materials is the absence of fixed internal boundaries inside the materials, which prevents the concentration of stress and failure in the interface of the structure pieces.
Smart scaled materials and nanobars produced by using this type of materials are widely used in the production of nanostructures, including thin films, nano electromechanical systems, micro switches and atomic force microscopes (AFM).
This research studies the effects of changes in temperature, nanobar thickness and non-local parameter (nanometric scale) on vibrational and buckling behavior of the nanostructure made of smart materials. Non-local elasticity theory was used in this regard.
Based on the results, the evaluated parameters significantly affect the frequencies caused by the vibrational behavior of the nanobars, to the extent that the frequency decreases as temperatures increases. The reason is a result of the reduction in the toughness of the nanobar. In addition, increasing the non-local parameter decreases the frequency of the nanostructures. Finally, when the thickness of the nanobar increases, natural frequencies increase contrary to the other two parameters.
Results of the research have been published in Composite Structures, vol. 128, issue 1, 2015, pp. 363-380.
