The Real Science of Avatar

Abstract:
Its premise: could our minds someday be wired in such a way as to control the actions of other physical entities—be they animals, machines or even eerily attractive blue extraterrestrials?

Turns out, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has been working on it. In his book, Radical Evolution, author Joel Garreau paints a vision of a soldier who controls a battle suit with only her thoughts. She's also been inoculated against pain; her body can stop bleeding on its own; and oh yeah, she doesn't really need to eat or sleep for days at a time. All of the above were DARPA projects involving disciplines from nanotechnology to genetics.
