CT consortium developing nano-weapons
Abstract:
The Army has hired a consortium of mostly Hartford area manufacturers and researchers to find ways to incorporate nanotechnology into the next generation of lethal projectiles.
The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. in East Hartford, the consortium's leader, said the $1.5 million contract is part of a five-year pact with the Army's Joint Munitions and Lethality Center at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J. to develop advanced munitions based on nano and micro components.
The Applied Nanotechnology Consortium, or TANC for short, is comprised of: Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Co., Simsbury; GKN Aerospace Services Structures Corp., Cromwell; Kaman Precision Products, Middletown; University of Bridgeport; University of Connecticut; University of Hartford; and Imperial Machine & Tool Co., Columbia, N.J.
