Strem Chemicals and SONA Nanotech Sign Distribution Agreement for the World’s First Gold Nanorods Synthesized without CTAB

Newburyport, MA | Posted on February 24th, 2016

This agreement will make Strem Chemicals the first global distributor of gold nanorods (GNRs) completely synthesized without CTAB. SONA is the first company in the world to be able to synthesize and stabilize high quality gold nanorods without the use of CTAB.

“Over the last 30 years, there has been incredible progress within the research community working with gold nanoparticles in the areas of photothermal cancer treatment, diagnostic imaging, drug delivery and other areas. CTAB is a major concern in advancing the existing research into human use,” stated Dr. Ephraim Honig, COO of Strem Chemicals. “We are excited to be the first to bring to market gold nanoparticles that can help bring decades of research closer to the reality of life changing procedures.”

SONA CEO, Dr. Gerrard Marangoni, says, “This is a very important announcement for SONA and the gold nanoparticles industry globally. Our ability to manufacture gold nanorods without CTAB/CTA+ will accelerate the adoption of these nanoparticle products for medical and surgical applications. In addition, our GNR products offer many features, supported by our patent-pending technical advances, that will offer benefits to the primary commercial users of gold nanoparticle products, biotech companies, who make gold Nano rod-enabled point-of-care, point-of-use and In-Vitro diagnostic test kit products.”
