New state economic development commissioner says Syracuse is no place for nanotechnology
Abstract:
The Syracuse area scored what appeared to be a big win in September when the state promised to invest $28 million to turn a former General Electric Co. laboratory in Salina into a nanotechnology research and development facility.
But the man picked by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to be the next head of the state's economic development office has put a damper on the victory.
In a Jan. 27 story in City Hall, a publication and website focusing on New York City, Ken Adams said the state needs to re-evaluate its economic development strategy to avoid the "political fantasy" that every region can attract any employer or industry it may desire.
