SME and IMTS Unveil Plans for IMTS 2010 Emerging Technology Center

McLean, VA | Posted on January 28th, 2010

The ETC made its debut at IMTS 2004 and is the place where the manufacturing community gathers to view the future of manufacturing technology. The theme for the 2010 ETC is "Knowledge-Based" — applying knowledge-based management across the full spectrum including technology, manufacturing, people, and business. Past innovations featured in the ETC include nanotechnology, now commonly used throughout the industry, as well as the 2008 debut of MTConnect®, a series of open standards that address manufacturing systems interoperability on the shop floor.

"We are very excited to have SME on board as a partner," said Peter Eelman, Vice President-Exhibitions & Communications for IMTS. "SME is well-known as a primary resource for independent education and dissemination of technology. We look forward to again opening the window on future technology developments that will interest all of our visitors."

Throughout IMTS 2010, the Emerging Technology Center will be located in the North Building lobby of McCormick Place.

About International Manufacturing Technology Show
The largest and longest running manufacturing technology trade show in the United States is held every other year at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill. IMTS 2010 will run September 13 – 18. IMTS is ranked among the largest trade shows in the world. Recognized as one of the world’s preeminent stages for introducing and selling manufacturing equipment and technology, IMTS attracts more than 92,000 visitors from every level of industry and more than 106 countries. IMTS is owned and managed by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology.

AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology

Founded in 1902 as the National Machine Tool Builders' Association, AMT supports and promotes the U.S. manufacturing technology industry. The association provides U.S. builders of manufacturing systems with the latest information on technical developments, trade and marketing opportunities, and economic issues. It also gathers and disseminates information about world markets, promotes its members' products in those markets, and acts as a representative on manufacturing technology matters to governments and trade organizations throughout the world.

About SME

Founded in 1932, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (www.sme.org) is the premier source for manufacturing knowledge, education and networking. Through its many programs, events and activities, SME connects manufacturing practitioners to each other, to the latest technology and the most up-to-date processes spanning all manufacturing industries and disciplines, plus the key areas of aerospace and defense, medical device, motor vehicles, including motorsports, oil and gas and alternative energy. A 501(c)3 organization, SME has members around the world and is supported by a network of technical communities and chapters worldwide.
