Abstract:
Iranian researchers produced dual zinc oxide nanorings through a novel method.
The nanorings were produced though a simple and economical method that can be used for the production of metal oxide nanostructures with high quality at large scales. Results of the research can be used in the production of sensors with high sensitivity for optoelectronic industries.
Zinc oxide is a structure with different morphologies, including nanoparticle, nanowire, nanoribbon, nano-disk, and nano-dumbbell, which can be obtained by changing the growth conditions. Many researchers across the world are interested in obtaining zinc oxide nanorings among all other morphologies. Zinc oxide nanorings are the best option to produce ultraviolet and gas sensors.
In this research, zinc oxide nanoribbons doped with tin were converted into zinc oxide nanorings. The application of gold catalyst was the innovation in this research, which resulted in the production of dual zinc oxide nanorings for the first time.
According to the researchers, the growth conditions in the horizontal furnace should be adjusted in a way that zinc oxide nanoribbons can grow in the furnace. Then, specific impurities should be added to the growth of nanoribbons process to create planar defects, which is very difficult.
Results of the research have been published in Crystengcomm, vol. 17, issue 13, 2015, pp. 2698-2704.
