German risk institute publishes opinion on cancer risk from nanomaterials

Abstract:
The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has published its current opinion on the cancer risk of nanomaterials and nanoparticles released from products. The organisation concludes that whilst several animal studies have indicated these substances have carcinogenic properties, scientific data is not yet sufficient to allow classification of these materials as carcinogenic to humans. However, it recommends further research on the issue.
