Greensboro City Council considering UNCG School of Pharmacy
Abstract:
UNCG's bid to become only the second public university in the state with a school of pharmacy cleared a major hurdle last Wednesday when the Greensboro City Council approved a resolution in support of a proposal to build a school of pharmacy. This clears the way for UNC-system president Erskine Bowles to begin a review of the university's plans for the new program.
A review team will arrive the first week of March with a final proposal being submitted to Bowles by April. Chancellor Linda Brady hopes a school of pharmacy will build on UNCG's existing public health programs such as nursing, nutrition and the soon-to-be-implemented Nanoscience co-venture with North Carolina A&T.
"As the continues to age the already existing shortage of pharmacists will become more acute," said Brady.
Brady hopes that this new school will attract pharmacutical companies to the Piedmont-Triad and graduates will attain high-paying jobs upon graduation.
