University of Leicester to collaborate on solar cell technology

Abstract:
The University of Leicester is set to collaborate on the development of a thin film solar cell technology designed and patented by Norwegian company EnSol AS.

The technology, which EnSol AS seeks to develop commercially by 2016, could be coated on windows in buildings to produce renewable power on a large-scale. Experts met at the University on August 10 and August 11 to officially launch the collaboration which will be the objective of the research project. The project will also aim to systematically refine this photovoltaic cell technology to achieve a cell efficiency of 20% or greater.
