Heat is on old technology
Abstract:
Victoria stands to become a global pariah and its old electricity technology will affect more than our airconditioners.
It will compromise our industry, our electric trains, our trams, regional industry and services and our living standards.
Sadder still, Victoria is being overtaken in the solar power industry despite our abundance of sun and scientists. In Europe and the United States, nanotechnology is producing photovoltaic cells that produce solar energy.
Other scientists are producing solar-thermal devices involving giant mirrors that are proving equally effective in driving down costs.
Both these advances will produce energy more cheaply than brown coal electricity when the price of carbon is inevitably factored in.
