Nanotechnology: the cutting-edge branch of science to attract young students
Abstract:
In the past five years reports have indicated that students are disengaged from science, resources are outdated, and teachers are ageing and out of touch with cutting-edge science research. There is a decline in students choosing to study the traditional physics and chemistry in the senior years.
I have led a team of six dedicated teachers who have developed an innovative, multimedia-rich science curriculum which addresses this crisis in science education.
After 30 years teaching science to young students I know they are most engaged when you fuel their curiosity and make the content exciting and relevant. Lots of meaningful learning occurs because they ask the questions to which they want answers. As a science teacher I capitalise on this opportunity by providing the answers and trying to put them into context.
