IC technology and tools face economic hurdles
Abstract:
The semiconductor industry is unique in having a blueprint for development that has proved accurate for 39 years. In 1965, Electronics magazine asked Gordon Moore, PhD, a founder of Intel Corp and then director of the research-and-development laboratories at Fairchild Semiconductor to write an article discussing the future of semiconductor technology. In it, Moore predicted an exponential growth in the number of transistors packaged in a single IC—a prediction later termed Moore's Law.
