New products: Nanotechnology’s impact will be enormous

Abstract:
Government entities have spent part of their funds on educating themselves on their own responsibilities in funding and policing nanotechnology. The Defense Department has concentrated on new materials for aircraft, ships and other carriers, and for personnel enhancement (better body protection, lighter loads and better communication in the field). The Department of Energy has spent on conservation, more efficient solar energy and improved refinery production. The National Science Foundation has focused on education and the development of pertinent basic science. The National Institute of Health and EPA have been interested in environmental and health problems associated with nano operations.
