Nanotech may help autos cut fuel use

Abstract:
Dow Chemical Co. and Veeco Instruments, Inc. are teaming up to produce a scanning device to measure the mechanical properties of nanocomposites that the federal government hopes will lead to stronger, lighter, more fuel-efficient cars and faster, more reliable computer chips.

Midland-based Dow and Veeco, a scientific instruments company in Woodbury, N.Y., were awarded a three-year, $6.6 million grant in September by the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Advanced Technology Program
