Film substrates on display thanks to nanotechnology

Abstract:
Dr Keith Parsons takes a look at how the latest nano technologies are being used to create a new generation of film substrates that significantly enhance the performance, reduce the sensitivity to handling, and improve the battery life of the displays used in touch screens, PDAs, laptops, mobile phones and instrument panels.

For instance, an innovative film developed jointly by MacDermid Autotype and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy in Germany, replicates the nano-structures found in the eyes of moths, which have evolved to collect as much light as possible without reflection, in order to prevent moths being detected by night time predators.
