Ion mill big coup for ASU
Abstract:
In the bowels of an Arizona State University building sits a machine that researchers hope will help them make a giant leap in the science of looking at very, very small things: molecules. ASU's new dual-focused ion beam mill allows researchers to see particles that are less than one-thousandth of the diameter of a human hair, and it allows them to sculpt those particles into 3-D objects. Besides helping in medical research on the molecular level, the equipment also could fit into plans for ASU's focus on nanotechnology.
