Launch with TCL Communication on world’s slimmest smartphone highlights successful year for P2i

Las Vegas, NV | Posted on January 9th, 2013

As well as the continued roll-out of the technology onto new additions to the Motorola RAZR family, P2i also launched with headset brand Plantronics. The integration of this breakthrough technology into the electronics sector has been acknowledged through various awards including the UK's Sunday Times Tech Track and the International Business Awards.

Dr. Stephen Coulson, Chief Technical Officer, P2i, said: "Smartphones and tablets are really just beginning their integration into the consumer lifestyle. Looking at the speed of hardware development and consumer adoption, we are at the cusp of a new era of consumer behavior where the potential for the mobile industry appears limitless. Yet this new world can all come crashing down at the slightest touch of water, rain or humidity. Forward thinking companies such as TCL Communication appreciate that hardware reliability is paramount if the mobile eco-system is to reach its potential and we are proud to announce our partnership with them."

Dan Dery, Chief Marketing Office of TCL Communication, said: "The addition of P2i's liquid repellent nano-coating to our latest range of smartphones is a reflection of our dedication to the needs of our customers. We understand the importance of smartphones in our everyday lives and the damaging effects that liquids can have on their performance. With P2i, we can provide an added layer of protection against everyday splashes and spills, as well as provide peace-of-mind to our customers."

The ultra-thin coating, which is applied within a vacuum chamber and molecularly bonded to the surface, permeates every aspect of the devices, inside and out, ensuring total protection. The thinness of the coating, which is invisible to the naked eye, means it does not interfere with the internal electrical conductivity. This allows all components to be treated, leaving no weak points to attract water and cause permanent corrosion damage.

Dr Coulson explains: "The real success of P2i over the past year however, lies not only in its innovative science, but in its capability as a company to turn this breakthrough technology into a proven cost-effective high-volume solution for electronics manufacturers. This commercialization is changing the economics of the mobile eco-system, putting the responsibility of water damage back into the hands of the networks and manufacturers, ultimately providing more reliability and confidence for end-users.
