Abstract:
Could San Diego, America's finest city, be on the brink of helping lead the United States, the world's greatest nation, to a tremendously successful 21st century?
We think so. Even with a struggling economy and political division, there are reasons to have great confidence that America will overcome its problems.
Our durable democratic institutions are one reason for this confidence. Another is our faith in our exceptional citizenry. One group in particular is likely to lead the way: the brilliant American scientists who are poised to change the world through biotechnology - the use of biological processes to manufacture products - and nanotechnology - the engineering of functional systems at the molecular level.
