India’s strides in Information Technology continued unabated in 2009
Abstract:
Special Incentives for Fabs and other High Tech IT Products
The Special Incentive Package Scheme (SIPS) to encourage investments for setting up Semiconductor Fabrication and other micro and nano technology manufacturing Industries in India was announced by the Government on 21.3.2007 and is valid upto 31st March, 2010. In response to the Scheme Eighteen (18) proposals in all, one each in the area of Semiconductor Fab and TFT-LCD panel and sixteen in Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) have been received. In-principle letters have been issued to twelve (12) SPV applicants on 1.6.2009.
Nanotechnology
The Nanotechnology Initiative Programme of Department of Information Technology was started in 2004 with focus on nano-electronics. Under this Programme two Centres of Excellence in Nanoelectronics are being set up at IIT Bombay and Indian Institute of Science Bangalore at a cost of about Rs. 100 Crore. A major project entitled "Indian Nanoelectronics Users Programme (INUP)" with an outlay of about Rs. 25 Crore has also been initiated at IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore to facilitate and support generation of expertise and knowledge in nanoelectronics through participation and utilization by external users of their facilities.
