7 local firms get boost from venture funds

Abstract:
A similar doubling in employment is anticipated by Raydiance, a producer of photonic laser devices, said company President Scott Davison, who projects the number of workers rising from 40 to 80 by year's end. "This investment recharged the war chest," he said.

The 3-year-old company, which wants to scale up its sales and marketing, began life as a defense company but has widened its focus to include biomedical, national security, energy and nanotech applications, Davison said.
