Nanotechnology: The science of small
Abstract:
In the 1967 classic The Graduate, Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) was given one word of advice: “plastics.” In a remake today, the advice might be a different word: “nanotechnology.”
“At the micro level, all properties of a material are a given,” said Mihail Roco, chairman of the U.S. National Science and Technology Council's subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering and Technology. “In nano, anything can be changed.” Roco estimated in 1999 that nanotechnology would become a $1 trillion industry by 2015. Recent estimates say it will happen sooner, he now says.
