Feds invest in MetroPhotonics

Abstract:
The federal government will invest $7.7 million in new research at Ottawa-based MetroPhotonics. The funds come from Industry Canada's controversial Technology Partnerships Canada program. Critics say the program amounts to corporate welfare, as the government seldom recovers anything on its investments. The money is part of a $22.1 million dollar research and development project the company is undertaking to further develop nano-photonic integrated circuits.
