Nanotechnology And The Culture Of Medicine
Abstract:
Advocates of nanotechnology and participants in discussions surrounding the potential convergence of nanotechnologies, biological/genetic science, information technologies and cognitive science (NBIC) frequently present potential applications for improving human performance without making distinctions between therapeutic treatments and non-therapeutic enhancements. We will examine the clinical medicine perspective on therapeutic and enhancing technologies and the cultural elements within medicine that might be in conflict with the general assumptions implicit among emerging NBIC advocates.
