FENU - Institute of Physics and Information Technologies
The Institute of Physics and Information Technologies (IPIT) was set up in 1997 as amalgamation of the School of Physics (opened in 1972) and Research Institute of Physics and Engineering (established in 1985). Up to that time, teaching and research in physics were conducted at various other university schools.
In early 1920-s, physics was one of the main courses for the students of the Technology Faculty and of the Department of Physics and Chemistry (Teacher Training Faculty) at the young Far Eastern National University. Since 1931 physicists had been trained at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, then at the Department of Physics at University, later, in 1943-1956, at the Teacher Training Institute which was a successor to the University. In 1956 the Far Eastern National University (FENU) reestablished its status as a university, and, like many other classical universities, it comprised the School of Physics and Mathematics.
