SouthWest Nanotechnologies CEO Dave Arthur Appointed to the Board of Affiliates of Rice University Professional Science Master’s Program

Norman, OK | Posted on February 13th, 2015

SouthWest NanoTechnologies (SWeNT) is a leading manufacturer of single-wall, few-wall and multi-wall carbon nanotube materials for printed electronics, energy storage and composites applications.

As a new member of the Board of Affiliates, he will advise the program on curriculum development, provide feedback on workforce needs in his industry, and help with recruitment, internship opportunities, and placement of students. Unlike traditional master's degrees, the Professional Science and Engineering Master's Program degrees combine an interdisciplinary curriculum with business training and hands-on experience, enabling graduates to acquire a new "tool-set" for success in a business environment.

"It is an honor to be appointed to the Board of Affiliates, as Rice University is highly regarded for its nanotechnology and materials engineering research," Arthur says. "I look forward to mentoring and working with graduate students who will no doubt become industry leaders, innovators, researchers and policy makers in the near future."

Arthur has more than 30 years' experience commercializing products utilizing advanced materials. He joined SouthWest Nanotechnologies in 2005. Arthur also co-founded Chasm Technologies; a consulting firm that helps its clients commercializes new products through smart application of materials science and process technology. Previously, Arthur has held senior management positions at Rogers Corporation, A.T. Cross Company, TPI Composites, Helix Technologies, and Eikos. He graduated with an M.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Connecticut and an M.B.A. from Northeastern University. He holds a B.S.in chemical engineering from Tufts University.

"Partnership and collaboration with industry is an integral part of Rice University's professional master's programs," said Dagmar Beck, director, Professional Science and Engineering Master's Programs at Rice University. "As a new member of Rice's PSM Board of Affiliates, Dave Arthur will provide input about industry needs, collaborate with faculty, staff and students in the Nanoscale Physics program, and assist in identifying ways to keep the program in line with both industry needs and educational demands from prospective students." "As an acknowledged leader and head of a successful nanotechnology company, we value his input in keeping the faculty aware of future changes in the workplace that might influence the needs and potential of our graduates."
