Aculon Receives Patent for Application of Enhanced Bonding Layers on Titanium

San Diego, CA | Posted on October 9th, 2014

Aculon, Inc., a leading nanotechnology enabled performance coatings company, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has allowed a patent covering its method for enhanced bonding of layers on titanium.

United States Patent No. 8,758,899 discloses a method for applying a dense coverage, adherent phosphorus-based coating on the native oxide surface of a material. The disclosed Phosphorus based coatings include phosphate and organo-phosphate coatings. The present invention also provides further derivitization of the phosphorous based coatings to yield dense surface coverage of chemically reactive coatings and osetoblast adhesion-promoting and proliferation-promoting coatings on the native oxide surface of the titanium material.

"One of the benefits of our technology is the ability to change its functionality from repellency to adhesion promotion. The ability to the boost adhesive bond strength using our technologies to many challenging substrates including titanium is valuable for many customers. We now have nearly 30 issued US patents in our IP portfolio." comments Edward Hughes, CEO of Aculon.
