Giant concepts from a world in miniature
Abstract:
"We can currently solve around 80% of the problems companies bring to us by using nanotechnology," explained Andreas Weis head of business unit at Nanogate AG, a rapidly growing international leader in chemical and physical nanotechnology based near Saarbrücken, Germany. Such a success rate is certainly impressive.
Materials can be given an incredible array of properties that would not previously have been possible. They can, for example, be stain and corrosion resistant or have antibacterial properties, and this is revolutionising common household, office and medical products. "There is no area that I know of where nano technology cannot add something to the properties of the material," Weis said.
The revolution in materials science is unfolding fast, and is now part of the race for commercial advantage. "In my opinion," Weis concluded, "in five or 10 years nobody will speak much about nanotechnology any more. It will simply be a standard technology that we all use."
