New Zealand based nanotechnology company Izon Science, today announced a distribution agreement with US based BridgePath Scientific, a provider of scientific research products and services to the scientific community.

Izon Science and BridgePath Scientific sign US distribution agreement at BIO2010

Christchurch, New Zealand and Frederick, MD | Posted on May 6th, 2010

The agreement signed at the BIO International Convention in Chicago will see BridgePath Scientific distribute Izon's nanoparticle analysis systems on a non-exclusive basis in the US.

Izon's qNano and qViro instruments combined with the newly launched Variable Pressure Module (VPM) provide the world's most comprehensive nanoparticle analysis system in a single instrument.

Patrick Haley, BridgePath's Chief Executive says, "We look forward to representing Izon Science in the US and adding Izon's instruments to our existing scientific research product range. Izon's new analytical tools will help researchers conduct novel research in a number of nanoparticle related fields."

"BridgePath has an extensive network of scientific researchers around the country and they're known for their reliability, responsiveness and forward thinking. We're very pleased to be working with Patrick and his team to increase the uptake of our technology into the US. This is a very important relationship for us", says Hans van der Voorn, the Executive Chairman of Izon.

Researchers using Izon's nanoparticle analysis system can measure and characterize virtually all particles including nanoparticles, viruses, bacteria and bioparticles such as exosomes and liposomes. Particle concentration, electrophoretic mobility, size and aggregation kinetics can all be analysed. Real time reaction monitoring allows users to design and test nanoparticle systems by analyzing the changes in particle properties as various modifications are applied. This is useful for bio-nano work, drug delivery research or development of diagnostic applications.

Izon's qNano and qViro instruments use tunable nanopores to measure individual particle properties as they cross the nanopore. Izon's invention of the Variable Pressure Module (VPM) provides precise control of liquid flow in addition to the standard electrophoretic operation of nanopores. The ability to vary pressure, electrophoretic force and nanopore size in real time, while monitoring the output is what provides the broad range of capabilities.

Izon's instruments are used across a wide range of scientific fields including bionanotechnology, virology, vaccinology, microbiology, gene therapy, medical research, marine science, aquaculture, chemistry and nanoscience. Current projects include virus quantitation and analysis, oncolytic viruses, marine science, drug delivery systems, nanoparticle charge measurement, diagnostic applications using antibodies and nanoparticles, bioparticle analysis, and controlled dispensing of particles and biomolecules by count.

BridgePath Scientific, headquarted in Frederick, MD, offers a wide variety of products and services to the scientific community. BPS offers new and refurbished laboratory equipment nationally and performs service and preventative maintenance for local clients. BPS has a commercial lab that manufactures a number of reagents and kits for scientific research and development.

Over the past year Patrick Haley and his company BridgePath Scientific have received a number of honours. Haley was named as one of the five "Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2009" by Smart Company Magazine and most recently was selected as a finalist in The 2010 Entrepreneur Council of Frederick County Awards. BridgePath Scientific received the SUMMIT Award for Innovation from the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, Service Provider of the Year Award from the Technology Council of Maryland, and a 2009 Best of Business Award from The Small Business Commerce Association (SBCA).
