Nanotechnology gaining momentum
Abstract:
Russia is creating a network of factories where nanotechnology is used. An enterprise that produces metal cutting tools coated with ultra-thin layers has been launched in the city of Rybinsk. These tools are used in manufacturing aircraft engines and equipment and in rocket and space industry.
Experts at the "Kurchatov Institute" of the Russian Scientific Research Centre developed the technology of applying coating on a cutting-tools and an installation for this purpose. This method has been integrated into industry with the assistance of the ROSNANO Corporation by selling the license for its use to the enterprise. In short, the technology was turned into a commercial item, says the director of the Kurchatov Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk.
