Nanotechnology: safety rules skewed the wrong way

Abstract:
The Therapeutic Goods Administration's refusal to label sunscreens containing nanotechnology shows Australia's regulation of risky technologies and substances in the products we consume is inadequate ("No nano labelling despite concerns", July 13).

This paternalistic approach to regulation ultimately favours commercial interests over informed consumer choice. Australians are at no less risk from the dangerous impacts of nanotechnology, food additives or pesticides, and we have the same right to informed choice as our European counterparts.
