Discoveries spawned in '07

Abstract:
Invisible cloaks. Molecular keypad locks. Algae-derived fuel. Disease-fighting capers. Nanosoccer competitions. These topics hint at some of the farseeing scientific advances of 2007.

Breakthroughs in medicine, chemistry, engineering, astronomy and physics bring a dose of hope atop the drama of discovery. Claims of progress in scientific research, however, must be tempered by the very real problems involved in the application of some of the findings.
