Photonics: Charge of the light brigade
Abstract:
The latest study of fluorescence in nanowires shows that it can be controlled by electric fields. This finding suggests the presence of mobile charge carriers, which could be useful for designing nanoelectronic devices.
There is an irony in the fact that the world of nanostructured materials has become one of the biggest areas of chemistry and physics1, 2, 3, 4, with myriad applications emerging in catalysis, biophysics and the health sciences. A crucial aspect of this is the development of molecular photonic and electronic devices, which are constructed from nanoscale components.
