Worldwide, research into new techniques for microscopic manufacturing seeks to invent useful innovations, but already it is creating intriguing new images.
The microscopic photos on these pages are a sample of designs captured by researchers in Japan, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at UC Irvine.
The photos are offshoots of research that seeks to develop devices such as miniature gyroscopes, "medical laboratories on a chip," biological computers, and nanoscale test equipment.
