Panel urges more research on nanotechnology's risks

Abstract:
The House Science Committee urged the Bush administration to increase federal research on the potential environmental, health and safety risks of nanotechnology.

Experts predict nanotechnology -- engineering matter at an ultra-small scale to create new materials with novel properties -- will produce dramatic advances in electronics, health care, manufacturing, alternative energy and other fields. But they say more research is needed on nanotech's risks before the new technology can fulfill its potential.
