Abstract:
NanoBioNexus, Inc. (NBN), a non-profit corporation dedicated to nanobiotechnology, caps a year of educational and professional achievements with an upcoming forum entitled, "How Will Centers for Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (CCNE's) Make a Difference?" Devoted to Nanotechnology in Cancer Research, this NBN event will be held Thursday, November 30 at Moores UCSD Cancer Center's Goldberg Auditorium with presentations by distinguished San Diego-based NanoTumor Center (NTC) executives who will share progress on top research projects and plans for commercialization.

In conjunction with the event, the NanoTumor Center educational website is being launched. Designed by NanoBioNexus and developed in conjunction with the Moores UCSD Cancer Center IT department, the website is an educational tool targeting various audiences including healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs and the community at large. The website tool exemplifies a key deliverable from the NTC's Educational Core, co-lead by NanoBioNexus with a mission to increase the education and understanding of nanotechnology's role in oncology.
Earlier this year, NanoBioNexus became a co-recipient of a $20 million, 5 year National Cancer Institute (NCI) grant that includes the University of California San Diego, Moores UCSD Cancer Center, The Burnham Institute, NanoBioNexus, and the University of California campuses at Irvine, Riverside and Santa Barbara to form the NTC and further develop nanotechnology-based projects focused on addressing cancer. NanoBioNexus serves as co-lead of the Educational Core of the NanoTumor Center together with world renowned Joanne Mortimer, M.D., Deputy Director for Clinical Oncology at Moores UCSD Cancer Center and Professor of Clinical Medicine, Translational Oncology Program at UCSD.
On the international scene, NanoBioNexus continues to gain momentum and interest from many parts of the world for projects or collaboration work. Fueled by the support of global organizations such as Global Connect, a network committed to growing new technology clusters worldwide, NBN expands its reach internationally. One example is a project with UK-based Oxford NanoLabs (ONL) where NBN's deliverables include strategic technology partner acquisitions for ONL. Director of Global Connect, Greg Horowitt said, "In my travels abroad, I'm often faced with business opportunities from companies needing industry experts to reach milestones and expand their business. If they have to do with nanotechnology, I know I can count on NanoBioNexus to step up and help companies prosper." NanoBioNexus is also in dialogue with Korean and Australian delegates to explore ways to work together.
In support of NBN's corporate mission, Martin J. Waters, Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati, has joined the organization's Advisory Council fortifying NBN's capabilities.

About NanoBioNexus
NanoBioNexus, founded by Adriana Vela in 2004, is a not-for-profit corporation exclusively dedicated to nanobiotechnology with a growing international constituency. The NanoBioNexus mission is to provide a community service by building awareness and understanding of nanotechnology and by fostering business opportunities in the application of nanotechnology in the life sciences. Nanotechnology involves manipulating matter smaller than 100 nanometers and taking advantage of properties that are present only at that scale.
