Nanotech Policy Faces No Small Hurdles
Abstract:
Air purifiers, cosmetics, sports equipment, computers, clothing, bedding, household appliances, medical devices. Nearly every item of daily life has been made — and made better, say supporters — with nanotechnology.
But with billions spent by U.S. taxpayers and private industry on nanotechnology research and product development, some policymakers, scientists and business leaders are still trying to figure out exactly what nanotechnology is, what it can do and whether it is harmful to consumers.
(Ed.'s note: "With expensive nanotech solutions for cancer or other health problems, it's likely that those with the best health care would be able to get the new care and live longer whereas the poor would be left behind." Class, pay attention: this is what is called a "strawman attack." Everything I have read suggests that advances in "nanomedicine" are likely to result in less expensive diagnosis and treatment, not to mention those that are more rapid and less invasive. While some "nanotech" advances may result in some products that are more expensive, don't believe it when you read articles that suggest that most or all will.)
