R&D spending hits record high

Abstract:
Science and technology R&D spending by Japanese companies, universities and others hit a record 16.93 trillion yen ($US144.3 billion) in fiscal 2004, marking a fifth straight yearly increase and a 0.8% gain on the year. Nanotechnology spending posted the highest gain at 9.3%.
