The government plans to set 10-year national goals in 10 critical technology fields to strengthen Japan's international competitiveness and revitalize its science and technology capabilities, government sources said Saturday.

Also included are biotechnology, nanotechnology and other advanced science and technology fields in which Japan, the United States and some European nations are in fierce competition.
