Govt sets 10 technology goals

Abstract:
The government plans to set 10-year national goals in 10 critical technology fields to strengthen Japan's international competitiveness and revitalize its science and technology capabilities, government sources said Saturday.

The government aims to become the leader in the 10 fields, which include supercomputers and measurement and seabed research technologies.

Also included are biotechnology, nanotechnology and other advanced science and technology fields in which Japan, the United States and some European nations are in fierce competition.
