Abstract:
When the European NanoBusiness Association analysed enthusiasm for the European Union’s 6th Framework Programme, as measured by the numbers of expressions of interest, the Nordic region came out way ahead of the rest of the continent. While enthusiasm for funding does not translate directly to receiving EU money - the European Commission received 1000 nanotechnology-related proposals involving more than 21,960 participants and funded around 10% - it does demonstrate Europe’s enthusiasm for and commitment to nanotechnology. With Europe already outspending the rest of the world and the European parliament calling for even more funding, things are looking good.
