Abstract:
Iranian researchers from Shiraz University produced a nanosensor during a laboratorial research which can be used in measuring naproxen drug.
The sensor is able to measure the correct amount of the sample with high speed and accuracy, and it has low production cost.
Naproxen is a drug that is used as anti-inflammation, anti-fever and painkiller in the treatment of mild to medium pains. In this project, carbon paste modified sensor has been designed and produced by using zinc oxide nanoparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotubes. An appropriate electrochemical method has been proposed by using the sensor to measure the amount of naproxen.
Using the sensor presented by the researchers in this project has advantages, including lower cost and higher speed, in comparison with methods such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and electrophoresis, and it can be an appropriate and efficient option for the detection of very small amount of naproxen. Therefore, the invention can be used in medical and pharmaceutical industries to quantitatively measure medical compounds, specially naproxen.
According to the results, electrochemical behavior of naproxen has been improved in comparison with some other electrodes in the reports by appropriate semi-conductivity of zinc oxide nanoparticles and perfect conductivity of carbon nanotubes. In addition, linear extension, measurement sensitivity and electron transfer rate have been increased on the surface of the produced electrode.
Results of the research have been published in details in Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry, vol. 714-715, issue 1, 2014, pp. 103-108.
