Iran Unveils New System for Purification of Wastes Using Nanotechnology
Tehran, Iran | Posted on December 24th, 2012
The system has been invented with the support of Mazandaran Governorship and Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council by the experts of Nanotechnology Research Center of Babol Noshirvani University of Technology. This system is able to purify 30,000 liters of wastewater every day to the extent that they can be used in agricultural applications. Being made of the combination of the two systems membrane bioreactor and solvent-resistant nanofiltration with the pores of 30-40 nanometers, the system can turn the wastewater into agricultural water in the first stage, and possibly into drinking water in the second stage. Another advantage of the system is its adaptable design and transportation.
According to its manufacturer, the system can be produced limitlessly in capacity with very reasonable price taking into consideration the fact that all membranes used in the system are produced in the country.
The utilization of the technology to build nanofiltration membranes at semi-industrial scale (able to be developed to industrial scale) started in the second half of 2009 in Babol Noshirvani University of Technology. At present, the semi-industrial production of spinal modules for nanofiltration membranes is being carried out.
