China Aims To Renew Status As Scientific Superpower

Abstract:
Official spending on science will only increase, even as U.S. budgets are cut. China's research and development spending is scheduled to rise to 2.2 percent of GDP in 2015, from 1.7 percent in 2011, with a focus on specific emerging fields such as nanotechnology, clean energy and stem cell research. Along with this targeted investment, there also has been a serious focus on building up China's scientific infrastructure in the form of new research labs and institutes.
