Contour Energy Systems Appoints Joe Carcone as New Vice President of Sales & Marketing

Azusa, CA | Posted on November 16th, 2010

Contour Energy Systems, Inc. an innovative portable power company commercializing next-generation battery systems, today announced the appointment of battery industry veteran Joe Carcone to the newly created position of vice president of sales and marketing. In a move that reflects its expanding and maturing executive management team, the company is also promoting Dr. Simon Jones to the strategic position of vice president of technology.

Mr. Carcone will be responsible for developing and executing sales and marketing strategies targeting direct OEM and retail sales. Leveraging his considerable industry experience with Bell Labs, GE, SANYO Energy USA and PowerGenix, Carcone's charter is to expand worldwide market penetration for newly developed products from Contour Energy Systems.

"With 35 years of battery, consumer and electronic manufacturing industry experience, I've been associated with a variety of groundbreaking technologies," Carcone said. "Based on my due diligence, Contour Energy Systems possesses some of the most exciting new technology I've ever seen. This is a game-changing company and I look forward to helping the organization live up to its promise of ‘reshaping portable power'."

Carcone started his career with Bell Labs performing engineering work for terrestrial and aerospace battery systems. With GE, he worked in the rechargeable battery business. For over 20 years, Carcone was responsible for sales and marketing for North and South American Operations with SANYO Energy USA. Prior to joining Contour, he was vice president of marketing and sales at PowerGenix, a venture start up company specializing in nickel zinc rechargeable batteries. He holds a BS in electrical engineering and an MS in operations research from Rutgers University.

In his role as director of research and development, Dr. Jones supervises the research and development efforts for lithium primary and advanced rechargeable technologies. In his expanded role as vice president of technology, Dr. Jones will work closely with Contour's partners at universities, national laboratories and other institutions for the licensing and development of other advanced battery technologies and platforms. Dr. Jones received a D. Phil in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, UK, and is the author of over 30 scientific publications. He has over ten years experience in materials research for emerging technologies, including electrochemistry, organic electronics and nanotechnology.

"The executive management team we're fielding is a great blend of proven battery and non-battery industry leaders," said Joe Fisher, chief executive officer with Contour Energy Systems. "Joe Carcone's industry credentials are stellar, and he'll make a significant impact in his new role heading sales and marketing. On the technology side of the house, Dr. Simon Jones has been pivotal in overseeing the development of Contour's fast-growing intellectual property portfolio and R&D efforts that are the foundation of our ambitious commercialization plans. His promotion as vice president of technology is well deserved."
