Two area universities receive cancer research grants
Abstract:
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas began its second year by awarding 52 cancer research grants totaling more than $40 million to 13 Texas institutions.
The grants, announced Oct. 29, include two in Tarrant County. The grants are the first of $216 million expected to be awarded by CPRIT in 2011 to support cancer research, drug development and evidence-based cancer screening efforts in Texas.
The University of Texas at Arlington received a $200,000 grant for research led by Jian Yang. The title of the project is "Biodegradable theranostic nanoparticles for detection and treatment of thyroid cancer."
