7 universities to submit strategies to state to become Tier One

Abstract:
The University of Texas at Arlington will offer doctorate degrees in sustainability and globalism. UT-Dallas will bring more diversity to its student body and faculty. UT-San Antonio will continue raising admissions standards.

President Jim Spaniolo said UT-Arlington wants to expand and strengthen many existing doctoral programs but also add some new ones - in areas like sustainability, nanoscience and globalism. The campus also wants annual research spending over the next decade to rise from $51 million to $210 million.
