Now, scratch-resistant paint from city scientist

Abstract:
Innovation Center for Applied Nanotechnology (I-CanNano), a brainchild of scientist turned entrepreneur Arup Chatterjee, not only produces intelligent paints but exports it to the US, the UK and Russia. The firm has tied up with Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra for scratch and graffiti resistant nano powder coating paint for automobiles. The client list also includes Godrej & Boyce and Parryware Roca.

"Nanotechnology is all about rearranging atoms and molecules to get a unique property. It has the potential to revolutionize products of daily use. We have leveraged the technology to create intelligent paints and coatings that can resist rust for 15 years, absorb carbon-dioxide and hence reduce pollution and self-cleansing/anti-graffiti paints that is scratch resistant. We've developed heat conductive and heat resistant or insulation paints for various of industrial use," the ex-IITian said. The anti-graffiti paint was developed for a tube station in London to keep walls clean.
