Nanotech effort gets slice of defense funds

Abstract:
A Columbia-based consortium formed to promote nanotechnology research and product development got a boost yesterday when President Barack Obama signed into law the 2010 defense appropriations bill.

The $626 billion defense measure, passed Saturday by the Senate, includes $5 million secured by Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., to support the Columbia-based NanoTechnology Enterprise Consortium. The consortium was formed in January to develop products for industrial and military use, including the defense, biomedical, energy and agriculture sectors.
